Due to the coronavirus pandemic a lot of businesses temporarily closed which meant no available work for their employees. This lead to less to no income of most Filipino workers.

In most calamities we experience, the government and its pertinent agencies such as SSS, GSIS and PAG-IBIG would usually allow calamity loans to its members. It is when its members can loan an amount with little to no interest in order to help the members start over again and rebuild - it can be used as a capital to start a business, build a house, pay medical fees etc. 


For SSS, since the start of the community quarantine due to COVID19, it has announced that it will allow calamity loan to its members by April 24, 2020. However, when the date came the offer wasn't available yet on their system. They have reasoned it out that the beneficiaries of SBWS (small business wage subsidy) program have been prioritized first as their system would crash if both are entertained at the same time. 

It is now a good news that the SSS calamity loan can be availed through their website. For now, you can complete it through your web browser on your desktop or mobile. 

However, before you can apply make sure you have the following:
✓ An SSS online account
✓ six months contribution for the last 12 months
✓ Updated mailing address/employers address

Here's the step by step guide in applying online;
1. Log in to your SSS online account.
2. Click E-services tab and choose Apply for Calamity Loan on dropdown. 
3. You will then be routed to the loan application page. Take note of these:
- loan amount can only be up to P20,000. 
- Loan proceeds can only be disbursed through a CHECK so make sure you got the correct address. 

4. There will be no other requirements, so once you submit the application the screen will show you the reference number. 

5. An email confirmation will also be received to let you know that it's processing your request.
